The Lazst Resort, Part 1 by B.J. Best
You awaken in a bed, not having any idea who you are, where you are, or why you might be there...<br>No, wait a minute. You're pretty groggy when you first wake up in the morning. After thinking about it briefly, you know exactly who you are, where you are, and what you're doing. Your name is Pat Conroy, and you are staying in a hotel room at the Bayside Resort--although most people call it the Lazst Resort (either affectionately or disdainfully, and it can be hard to tell which) after its proprietor, Ray Lazst.

Images do not display properly, particularly for the child's crossword, making this extremely frustrating. This is a TEXT adventure game, not a picture game. Consider removing the images and using TEXT (aka WORDS) to describe what is seen. Players can create their own maps, their own charts, their own crossword images if they need them.

can anyone assist me with the image for Clue 1? I've figured out what to do with the clue, I just am having trouble viewing the image for it when I find it. I'm not referring to the image of the written clue, I'm referring to the actual image needed to solve the clue. I've tried on multiple browsers. maybe someone can link me to it? thanks in advance for your help!

this game is brilliant so far! really enjoying it. Clue 3 seems to be written in another language. let the first letter (the capital letter) be your clue as to which language you should use, as the rest of the letters are lowercase. don't spend too much time translating...but do correspond the letters as they work in English. hope that helps!

I am really enjoying this game and solving the puzzles. Unfortunately, I am completely stuck on the ladder/string part and cannot find any help online at all. I have untied the string, but I can't seem to pick it up no matter what I try, or "use" any of my objects with the window to try to hit the button (I did lose one item by doing this-presumably an unimportant one). I have the oars in the boat but have not been able to make the compass yet as I can't get the cork (presume you need this?) or the string. Any help appreciated.

Really great puzzles, although I nearly gave up when I couldn't figure out the command for the ladder and string. Clue 2 and 3 were a piece of cake, although clue 1 had me confused; I wasn't sure what the "s" in S.B meant, but the bottom of the clue gave me a better idea of where to look after having thoroughly explored and examined everything.
One thing that bugged was when I saved and then came back later to resume the game, the hints reset all the way back to the beginning. So I was being hinted on talking to the receptionist when I was already way past that. After talking to the receptionist again, the next hint prompted me to figure out clue #2, which I had already figured out and took action (I had a can in my inventory).
Overall really good!

I like this adventure a lot. However I seem to have hit a bug. At this moment I'm sitting in the rowboat. I already got the oars and used them on the oarlocks a bit earlier. Now I have a compass. And I get this message:
You feel the compass you made will allow you to navigate your rowboat without getting lost, so you are ready to row into the bay!
There are no oars in the oarlocks! How will you use the boat?
But there are no oarlocks anymore (they went away when I put the oars in them earlier in the game). And I also don't have the oars anymore (and they are not in the shed). So seems that I hit an impossible situation here?
Greetings,

I wondered if somebody could help me please. I'm visually impaired and use a screen reader which usually manages well with Quest games as long as they contain no images, but, because it doesn't seem possible to solve this game without seeing images such as the dartboard and crossword puzzle I was wondering if someone would be willing to help me with these parts please as it seems a very good game and I would like to complete it.

Here is my inventory:
microphone
newspaper
clue 1
clue 2
the mystery instructions
clue 3
a can of Diet Pepsi
a map of Montana
the Chicago Manual of Style
a corncob
a sewing needle
a corkscrew
a glass of water
a roll of toilet paper
a box of tissue
a metal ladder.
Any hint would be appreciated.

That was pretty entertaining. I managed to get 120 out of 125 upon completion. I wonder what I missed? Wasn't sure about solving Clue 3. I ended up using an internet translator which got me close enough to realise what the message said. Was there an easier way in the game to solve this?
I was flummoxed by the ball room light switch as well. I found it by accident by "turning on light" even though I had no idea there was a switch. Is there a trick to finding the switch first?

Does anyone know the secret to clue 3? Got clue 1 and 2 fairly quickly and figured out how to get the quarters from Jack. Not sure what clue 3 means though. My first thought was that it was a mirror image or something but I tried using the clue in the mirror of the Bar toilet and nothing happened. Any hints anyone? Not a solution, just a subtle nudge in the right direction.
Thanks

I will review this later, unfortunately I am stuck on getting the 2 quaters, and I have no idea what Clue 2 means.
Clue 1:
CVZ B EJFU QFQTJ
y=x+1
is EASY ;), for those that don't know, it is a rehpic noitutitsbus. Read that equation very carefully.
Clue 2:
S.B P.4
1D + 3D - 2A
I don't get :(
Oh, the combi-lock on the Housekeeping Closet was also easy, you just have to kcol laid and enter the right combination. Examining a certain object (that results in a picture) will give you the answer.
Now, all I have to do is figure out clue 2 and hen figure out how to get the 2 quarters.
Right now I am carrying Newspaper, Clue 1 & 2, Instructions, Uniform, Map of Montana, Chicago Manual of Style, Corncob, Needle, Corkscrew, Glass of Ice, Roll & Tissue

I actually completed this game a while ago, but only recently registered with the site to post reviews or comments. Of the games, I've played so far (half a dozen or so from this site) this was the best. You've obviously put a huge amount of work into it, and it suffers from no errors at all from what I can see.
The clues work very well, the details are enjoyable. It takes patience and creative thinking to get through it, which I like. Pitched at just the right level for me - not something you can complete in a day or two, but with enough options and entertaining details to stop me getting too bored or fustrated.
Would very much like to see part 2 whenever it's ready.

I don't like giving 5's out unless it's definitely a great game. This game is, by far, the best game I've played on here. At first impression, I thought it was going to be another dumb hack but if you pay attention, it really turns out to be well done.
I had played originally for only the first few rooms and set it aside for a long time and then went back to play through it. Nice puzzle ideas. The strangest one was the string and the tube, though. It wasn't all that clear. Other than that, pretty good.
The amount of procedures and variables that are running through this is mind blowing. It must have taken a long time to write.
I wouldn't mind seeing a part 2 (even though it's been 2 years since the first one)

Unfortunately, there are non-creative dull-minded people like Jim Jones who rate good games a 1 (December 2002)

This was an amazing little text adventure. I liked the setting, room descriptions, and clever puzzles. The occasional sound clips enhanced the game world, though were not over done or out of place. On the "string" puzzle, I thought you might be able to use the cart optionally instead of the ladder in order to reach the string (i.e. stand on cart) but a ladder does make more sense. Would definately like to see the sequel when/if it's finished. On rating this, I would give it a 4 in comparison to larger text adventures, but for a small to medium sized game I think it's top notch and a definate 5. Just looking at the neatness of the code (puzzles and rooms and routines mostly in the order of solving the mystery), it's an amazing piece of work. Keep up the good work!

I like it also. Jim Jones, I disagree greatly, the commands have been thought out cleverly and the game is good, (although to hard for me, lol). I have failed miserably to complete it but what i have played of it i have enjoyed. Nice character description, good menus, and overall good game. The only thing i think would be better if you added a map of the hotel and it's grounds to make the game slightly easier. But other than that, good game.

Well personally Jim I think you're wrong because it is the best game I have ever played on this site... a lot better than a few of you're games (a hem cough cough).
Anyhoo, it is great gameplay and I agree that the music adds alot to it. There is great character development and the help file is tremendously useful. Just try it and you'll see.

sorry Bj but i dislike your game. I wouldnt say hate, because alot of work has been put into it. You cant just slap a bunch of commands onto a game and make it good. alot of my games sucked.. but still... the game isnt even that big if you take out all of the bays... i like big, non-mystery games. bye...

Congratulations to B.J Best for the best game of the archive. It was quite difficult. It has complete descriptions anda well thought plot, although the ending was more or less what I expected whould happen.I 'm not saying it was bad only that I had guessed what would happen from a point.Nonetheless,it was a great conclusion which leaves room for a sequel as B.J says.Maybe I 'll apply for Lazst Resort 2.
By the way, look forward to my own Thriller adventure, "Of Dancing Shadows" about 2 weeks from now.Script is 95% complete.

Well, the author of this game seems to be an active reviewer as well as a genius game author. I have found this game to be my favorite on this site, with humor, description, and even music. It is difficult but not impossible to solve, with a little thinking involved (now how do you make a compass?). It has an intriguing plot and a large map, with well-developed characters and interesting items (of which there are very, very many). I think it is worth the download time, which is larger due to picture and sound files.
