I could not even get the game to start. Jaws would show me an error, then an error number then I would hit OK and the quest program would quit.

Quite an interesting game with a neat and creative concept. The puzzles are inventive, as well as short and to the point. Despite the simplicity of the puzzles at times, it is a great deal of fun nontheless. Its short length and minor errors (none that affect the game a lot) however, keep it from getting a 5.

However, like someone else said, the game seems to stop midpoint in forest temple. I tried every single action "Look at, examine, take, speak to" with every object in the room and tried to use all things in my inventory with all objects around. Nothing. And there is no way out of the temple. If this is because the game hasn't been finsihed yet, no problem, but a warning would have been nice...

Not much better than the other game by this author. A fraction of more thought might have been added. The game did not run smoothly based on how it was designed. Only after opening it in QDK, did I realize how it should have been written in order to make it work.
The puzzles were not exactly hard or ingenius except for a small few. The rope idea near the beginning was ok.
A lot of the same problems are present as they were in the other game. Such as having to type the object EXACTLY as it is shown in order to interact with it or else the game doesn't know what you're talking about. When Link is unconsience - note the misspelling, you have to type "look at Link [unconsience]" before the game knows what it is.
Those problems and the numerous spelling errors cause for a non-enjoyable game time.

Better luck next time.

FANTASTIC GAME!

In Zora Shop there is the silver scale, but how do I get It? I clicked Take but it won't. What item do I need to have and/or give the Zora?

I am gifted........ with the Legend of Zelda!

I absolutely love this game. Especially that 'dying ember' (lol) :^) . The puzzles are sheer genius and the layout is very professional! First Class.
Extra note - please learn to spell before you make your next game.

I'd love to know just what criteria people are using to judge this game. I keep hearing phrases like "The puzzles are sheer genius" and "the layout is very professional" and "first class" which clearly don't apply to this game at all. When I played it, I noticed spelling and grammatical errors and nothing that I could recommend.

Are all these people either the writer under different names or his friends? Or are there really so many people out there who like very bad games?

It might be an idea for the IP address of whoever posts a review to appear alongside their name. I imagine it would show an alarming number of the people who have said great things about it are actually the same person.

FYI, davidw,
I do not submit and reviews pretending that I am someone else. If you want proof e-mail these people and ask them! But your right that what 'Tohm' said is not all that true. "First class"? Even I have to admit that i've seen better.

okay first of all everybody shut it.
this game is good not great and I admit there are a good few spelling mistakes but incase you hadnt noticed all these quest games do
nobody's (for you grammer crazy b*****ds that is "nobody is" not a misspelled plural) per fect and having to make yourself misspell is annoying but
for the grammer b*****ds replay the game ignoring the spelling misstakes and you will realise you have a brilliant game here.
P.S.
Sam, think of something more original than Tidus
its been done by Final Fantasy

You seem pretty defensive about a game that's supposedly not yours.
Could he be...the author?
Giving advice about Final Fantasy to the "author" was a nice trick too.

Well, this was ok, but it seriously lacked some major aspects. I actually liked the general storyline, but there were a few things that need fixing. Sam-I know good grammar isn't exactly necessary, but it sets a more friendly and easy-play tone for the player. For example:
There is Link here.
Not so great. Also, I am stuck in the small hut. And what the heck is the dying ember for? The leather cloak? Ever thought of making the hut in the village acsessable? (I know I spelled that wrong...)
Whatever.
This needs a bunch of improvement.

Ah, I made this game ages ago and I see it is still attracting players. ^^ A second in the series will come out (eventually) but the complete story is very long and consists mostly of memories ikn my head which were never recorded. Look out for a more detailed seaquel!

How to get the rope: A small witch will stop the curse, that axe might help you get to her...

Water Temple: How do swim deeper in the real zelda game...? A scale of course! You must find a scale until you can swim down to the door. (a good examine will help get you through it)

Nice way to be modest. And it's not like people are STILL being attracted to your game.
But when you vote for yourself, be sure not to make the next comment until much later on. :)

the game would have been almost decent if you didnt infringe on several copyrights.
You brought violence into the not so violent world of hyrule.
you should try to make your own stories up I mean cmon there are millions of people trying to palm off these crappy zelda ff hacks and no one seems to care theyre completing ripping off someone's life's work. dont insult shigeru miyamoto or squaresoft anymore. please

The following is a note from the author posted almost four years after publishing this game. Please also read his note on his other own text adventure from Feb 2004 (http://www.textadventures.co.uk/review.php?game=77)

Wow. I found it hard to look back on the year 2004. It's been four years since I made this game but I think it would only take a month for me to look back in embarrassment. I have matured alot in these years that have passed and I now realise how awful this game really is. First, I want to apologise to everyone who have played it. I wrote it at age 11 and I am writing this comment now at age 15.

The reason I made this game was because when I was eleven, I would play games in the large backyards of my house and my friend's houses. We would pretend we were great classic video game characters from Zelda, Final Fantasy and Warcraft. I was "Tidus", my friend, Shaun, was "Eladen" (or "Iladen", I can't quite remember) and my friend, Declan, was "Link". We were all 9 when we started and continued playing this fantasy "roleplay", if you will, until we were 11.

But this was more than a small game, we created our own imaginative land and a vast story over two years. This story was built on foundations of plagiarism and filled with awful plotlines and characters, but we still loved it.

When it was over and we started to mature, growing out of playing silly games in the back yard, I discovered "Quest" a great adventure game authoring program. And I thought, "What better way to document our imaginative journeys then by making it into an adventure game?"

Thus, "War of Hyrule Castle" was created; the first chapter in the story. It was shorter than I expected because I found it extremely difficult to remember the first part of the story that we created two years ago. Unfortunately, the bad reviews on the old axeuk.com website discouraged me and I never finished documenting the story. This is why children should not be allowed to join community websites on the internet, I feel. They don't realise how bad their creations are and how harsh the internet is. Now I have forgotten most of the rest of the "War of Hyrule Castle" story but what I remember of it is crap and ripped off completely from video games.

Just today I remembered how I made this game and came back to this website to see if it was still here. Sure enough, people are still playing it. Reviews continued to as recent as 2006. I was always worried that when "AxeUk" became a rich and famous company, "War of Hyrule Castle" would forever be part of it's history and I would be embarrassed eternally. Fortunately for me, nobody gives a crap about my stupid little game I made as a kid, and AxeUk isn't making the millions it deserves.

Now I hope to start a clean slate and I want to get back into making text adventures which might not be so bad. I just don't want people to base my "career", if you will, on this awful game I made as a kid and not play my new games.

Finally, thankyou too all you Nintendo fans that loved my game. I honestly didn't deserve your praise.
