Get Out of The House!
Author: Steve Lingle
Category: Comedy
Description: "You are about to embark on an adventure of a lifetime. Well, that might be exaggerating. You are about to embark on a very small quest to get out of a house." This game is intended for a good laugh. Ridiculous things happen (purposely), yet the puzzles are not too bizarre and actually make some sense.

I started this game fully expecting to give up within five minutes (a common thing when playing a Quest game) but I actually found myself quite liking it. It's not perfect - a long way from perfect in fact - but it's amusingly written and has some nice touches and seems, for the first time, to be a Quest game that might actually be worth playing.
The storyline makes little sense, although the game does tell you this to begin with. In short: you're in a house and must escape. That's the gist of it. In fact, that's the entire storyline from start to finish. Nothing particularly engaging but then engaging storylines aren't a requirement of text adventures.
The location descriptions are okay for the most part and a few have nice comic touches, but they're also a little jarring in that most of them begin with a short line telling you which location you're in and then, several lines further down, you get another line telling you which location you're in. There's also needless duplication of exits: they're nicely listed at the beginning of the location description so you know which way to go and then described again in the actual body of the text. Some of this might be the fault of the program but it's something that the writer should, and probably is, capable of correcting and really should have done.
Most static (non-moveable) items are described which is a refreshing change from other Quest games I've played, although unfortunately most of these descriptions are lacking in depth and often last for no more than a few words. The description of the TV is quite unusual in that it says "it's a TV

Thank you for playing and commenting. I agree there are errors. Some of which I could not fix and in future games, I will avoid certain types of puzzles unless I can manage them.
Some of the 'errors' you mentioned, are actually part of a puzzle and/or part of a joke. I'm not going to make a huge email to explain all the errors or non-errors except for a brief few.
Some parts of the game, which include tearing your arms off, are for humor's sake.
The bottle, however, you'll have to email me for a hint. I don't want to give that away on here.
The 'card' table in the dining room was why it said there were no cards. Not fully explained, I know.
The using of the chair on the table was one of the questions I might have asked about in the forum. "putting an object on an object". Try using chair on table. I believe that one works. (hint-not used for game completion, just a quick side puzzle)
There are a few fairly good puzzles in the game. Remember, try to get everything!!! You thought the chair was surprising to put in your pocket? :)
Thank you again for the review.

All I can say is....
HOLY COW.
This game is INCREDIBLE, if not perfect!!!
This has got to be the absolute best non-professional (I guess that would be amateur) text based game I have ever played in my entire life!
No kidding!
I'm going to go put a chair in my pants and rip my arms off on a window!
..and then I will download the game and actually play it.
Go get 'em, Steve. :)

Er, this is a hard game. Its funny though. How do I reachh the peep hole at the front door? What is the purrpose of the bathroom? The tile keeps breaking in the shower.
I was makking a map but its very small game so I threw it out.

Did your mother ever tell you to not stand on furniture? Since you are in an unrealistic game, you can pick up large furniture. It's actually a funny idea, despite what other games are like in this archive. That's your hint. Straight answer: SCROLL DOWN
You need two items that are already in the bathroom to stop the tiling from breaking. That is your hint. Straight answer: SCROLL DOWN

To reach the peephole: Pick up the couch (yes, that's right) and drop it in the front hallway. Then look at the peephole again. (you do NOT need to say 'stand on couch')
To stop the tile from breaking: Get the pillow off the toilet and the bathrobe hanging by the door. Drop both of them and they should automatically be placed on the shower floor. Alternatively, you can say 'use robe on shower' and 'use pillow on shower'. Once they are placed, type 'get tile' and you have successfully stopped the tile from breaking, HOWEVER, you cannot pick it up yet. Later in the game, you will know to go back and pick it up. Another friendly, and almost cruel, joke. You do need the tile near the end of the game.

I was going to email you but I don't have your real address.
Firstly, congrats on getting the rusty key out of the bottle.
This deal with unlocking the door is one of the errors that I am fixing in the overhauled super heavy duty remake of the game.
If you are holding the rusty key (once you've retrieved it from the bottle), all you have to do is say unlock lock or simply type 'n' or 'north' and you will move north into the now unlocked room.
Sorry for the confusion. Bear in mind, this was my first game.
THANKS FOR PLAYING!

Though honestly I didn't beat the game in full (only because every time I look at the screen now)I feel this is a good game and you fools who couldn't even figure out the pencil cork-screw thing, I laugh at you....where was I? Oh yes reviewing ummm... This game tickled my mind and made me feel good when I completed those sadistic puzzles. The humor-great, the storyline incoprehensible and a solid text adventure.:) Nice job Steve.

Wow, thank you guys for the compliments. I'm glad you liked the cork puzzle.
The first (and most sadistic) puzzle I designed for that game was the bathroom/shower tile puzzle. It's quite nasty and actually has two different solutions.
For those who liked this, there will be a larger version of this game in a few months hopefully. I have to finish the King's Quest full version first.

Thanks!

Wow, that's great to hear!
There should be a certain woman outside that you deal with and have to give her two items.
If I recall, an error might occur if you do incorrectly and shut down the game. That error will be fixed by the next version.
But just be sure to save the game before you attempt to give her anything. She is the last puzzle of the game.

This is so hard I have no idea how to get the bottle open....I do enjoy all the humor in the game, yet there may be a little bit of errors, I still enjoy it very much. Is there anyway to help me with the bottle?

emojo,
Couldn't get out of the living room?
The rating system is intended to rate the quality and design of a game. You should not post a bad rating because you cannot figure out a puzzle that no one else has ever had a problem with. I'll give you the answer. Since you start the game SITTING on the couch, try to STAND first.

Hi, thanks for playing. Send me an email so I can be sure where you are in the game. I'll tell you by email what I think you need to do. I don't want to reveal too much here. :)

It's been a while since anyone posted here, but I've been trying to play online and I can't seem to take anything into my inventory. I use the commands get, take, pick up and I've tried the little mouse- controlled command box on the side with the objects in the room. It just asks me if that was a typo and if there is a better way to say that. It also will tell me:
"You are in q3ext.qlb.limbo
Just a dummy!"
and then will repeat the room description.
I use the command get in pretty much every text game I play and it usually works. I don't know if this is a glitch (I'm trying to play in Chrome) or if I'm just too set in my ways when I use commands for these kinds of games. The reviews have really sparked my interest, and I'd really like to play, so any help would be appreciated. I will feel stupid if its a simple command thing, but I'd rather take the embarrassment in front of internet strangers and be able to play this game. :-P

@xavea This appears to be a bug with the online player (and probably in Quest 5) - I will take a look into it.
