Pretty fun game! I recommend it to people who like Text Adventures without good pictures. Maybe some work on pictures? There barley are any...

Great game, it's very well done. The only nitpicking I have is "use on" and "lift". "Put in" or "move" should also work. I got stuck at the pool, I was looking for something sparkly to float in the pool. Completely read Colin's request the wrong way, I was thinking, do tortoises swim?

after playing the first game, I was greatly looking forward to the second. I found this game to be a bit more challenging, which was great, but some of the puzzles were logically too difficult for what I consider to be an average text adventure player like myself (example (SPOILER): the puzzle with the rat and Donna to get her to throw the flask, as well as how to assemble the cannon, WOW). I enjoyed the story this time around, and the length of the game too with the separate chapters, and how all the areas were connected in the various tasks. but that ending, oh that ending. seriously dude? I didn't do all that to get THAT ending. I hope Part 3 has a much more gratifying reward upon completion!

While trying to figure stuff out I re-filled the cup with gunpowder, after I was done with the cannon. Now I can't figure out how to empty it - am I screwed and now I will have to start over to finish the game?

I like this game. It is good and I tried for ages to finish it without looking for the walkthrough but once I got to cannon part I most definitely needed it. There was no way I would ever have guessed how to put all of that together.

Then more problems came with the walkthrough. I saw that I needed wick but there was no mention of a wick anywhere else in the walkthrough. I eventually figured out that I needed to remove the net and look at it to pull the thread.

Then I needed string. It took me forever testing anything that could possibly give me string. Eventually I decided to leave that part of the 'cannon making' til last and realised that the cannon could be made without the string.

I was also stuck with the string (the one that tells you in the walkthrough that you need to use string on the hipflask)
I eventually carried on making the cannon leaving that bit til last and it allowed me to make the canon without it.

Maybe something has been changed in thegame since you guys posted your 'string problems' I dont know.

Oh god. I must be retarded. I didn't speak to the doctor, so I didn't get the location. Thank you so much for your patience (:

did you speak to the doctor after speaking to sir halibut? I have just downloaded the game and tried it. You need to speak to colin, have looked at the poster and spoken to sir halibut and then the doctor. It then opens up the Chippers field. It worked in the download.

I dont know if theres a problem with playing it online and im sorry youve had trouble.

But just to check... you have the face mask made from the ties and clean hanky? spoken to colin who mentioned the juggling? spoken to sir halibut who mentioned the circus AND then spoken to the doctor?

Hope this helps.

I have tried the game once more and again the new location is not added to my world map. I have used the command read poster but it told me I couldn't read the poster. So now I'm pretty much screwed.

Comment LinaLyssic

Yes I have. I think I may have made a mistake with the poster. Although I'm not 100% sure I read the poster. I can remember you were able to read what's on the poster by just using the look command and I'm not exactly sure I've read it. I'll just have to try again, I guess.

OH that sounds weird. If youve done what youre supposed to. You read the poster, spoke to colin and wore the mask and dealt with Sir Halibut. It should unlock it. Have you done all the Halibut stuff? with the mask?

Okay, I'm stuck right now. I've read the poster and I've talked to the boy. I tried to read the poster again and I've spoken to the sick sir, but I still don't have Chipperwoods. (Or whatever it's called.) What am I doing wrong?

You're supposed to 'look at' the tortoise, not examine it.

Comment Christine1

I have the same problem Blake had in January. Neither is it possible to examine the tortoise twice nor has it messages in blue light inscribed by examining it only once if it´s in the tank. Could there be rare new problems between Quest and it´s games if one has changed to windows 7 which Blake possibly could have done?
"Sir Loin trying to grow up" and other "easy-seeming-command-aggregates" function perfectly but i already had an unsolvable operating situation in "Barbarian" no one seems to have. With walkthrough plus explanation by the author in a case without riddles to solve there is no more chance for me to make something wrong witch could be made right. To me it´s always windows7. Could there be other basic, not totally expressed and changing problems with the continuity of functioning of quest and it´s games? Is this easy to fix, way to complicated to maintain in Quest for every software-situation, or could there be general hints like: reinstalling newly downloaded quest in some cases could have any possibility to change something?

Hi Blake. The hint for the urn is on the tortoise. If you use the tortoise on the tank, and then examine the tortoise, you will see a message scrawled on it's shell that can only be seen in the blue light from the tank. With that message, you can search the urn.
Hope that helps

Why did I say this game was short? No idea. Also David Welbourn there is a way to get into an unwinnable position. When you talk to sir halibut after wearing the face mask if you leave, the doctor won't tell you about the disease. Also if you don't talk to colin and examine the poster you will be in an unwinnable position.

The sequel to Sir Loin and the Coming of Age starts right where the first game left off, and like its predecessor, it has a fun sense of humour and engaging puzzles. (It also, unfortunately, has the same sloppy approach to spelling and punctuation, but we'll let that slide.) You don't need to have played the first game to play this one, but it wouldn't hurt. Many of the characters from the first game show up again, plus a boy named Colin that I remember seeing in the author's <i>Escape from the House</i> game.

I'm not sure if this game is larger than the first one, but it feels larger. In <i>Coming of Age</i>, you get to explore the castle, its grounds, and the nearby village. In <i>The Phantom Dennis</i>, you travel much further afield, by means of a very clever location called the World Map, which gets new places to visit added to it as you learn about them. Much fun, and gives a real sense of making progress in the game.

The puzzles are a good set, many of which reuse items in new ways, and many of which require you to combine items into new ones. Some of them are tricky and I admit I had to cheat to figure some of them out. More cluing would help with this. For example, there seems no reason why I shouldn't be able to use the string with the handkerchief. Also, the guard in the castle is helpful is you show some things to him; there should be more of this, so he has a comment on each of them, in case you're a bit stuck.

You might also get stuck because you need an item you simply haven't seen yet. It's hard to know you might want, for example, a handkerchief if the person carrying it never uses it in front of you.

Another point: as far as I know, you can't lock yourself into an unwinnable position in the game. This is a GOOD thing, and I do appreciate the effort. I will definitely want to play more games by this author.

But what's my biggest complaint about the game? The ending. Boo and hiss. I gotta say, if the game hadn't ended when it did, the command "stab kin
